Exton, PA- December 2019: The Exton Region Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce the winner of the 2019 Senator Robert J. Thompson Public Service award.  Kathi Cozzone, who spent 12 years as Chester County Commissioner, will be recognized as the public official who has made an outstanding contribution to the Exton Region.  Kathi Cozzone exhibited strong leadership and focused her attention on serving all citizens of Chester County, especially those who are less fortunate throughout her years as County Commissioner. Kathi used her experience in corporate America to help the County launch the, now, award winning strategic planning process during her first year in office and was instrumental in bringing the Stepping Up Initiative to Chester County by working to implement strategies to reduce the population of mentally ill inmates in Chester County Prison. She helped improve the lives of these individuals and their families while saving taxpayer dollars, by finding ways to divert nonĀviolent offenders from incarceration toward more rehabilitative outcomes. Commissioner Cozzone also worked to increase and improve programs for the un- and under employed, both in her role on the Workforce Investment Board and at CCAP.  Besides serving on two statewide advisory commissions, Kathi shows her passion by her involvement on Boards and the community including, Child Advocacy Center of Chester County, Communities That Care of Greater Downingtown, Downingtown Community Education Foundation, United Way of Chester County, Chester County Workforce Development Board, Chester County Conservation District, Chester County Industrial Development Authority, Chester County Economic Development Council, Uwchlan Ambulance Corps, and volunteers with other “Band Parents” to support her son at Downingtown East HS. ā€œKathi doesnā€™t mince words and speaks from her heartā€, says Kara Rahn from Chester County Government who submitted the nomination. ā€œShe is strong and steadfast in her convictions but always shares her opinions in a kind and thoughtful way.ā€

The award will be bestowed at the ERCC Annual Review Luncheon presented by Millerā€™s Insurance and will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Downingtown Country Club in Downingtown, Pa from 11:30-1:30.  During the luncheon, Laurie Kerkering, President of the Exton Region Chamber of Commerce will present the accomplishments of the chamber in 2019 and whatā€™s in store for 2020.  The new board members of the chamber and Chairman of the Board, Frances Shaw of Millerā€™s Insurance will be introduced. Acknowledgment and thanks will be given to the outgoing Chair, Diana Mattingly of First Resource Bank and those directors who have concluded their years of service.
